CONSULTANT IN CLINICAL ONCOLOGY
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Clinical Oncology. The applicant will be required to provide services in the management of patients with Upper GI cancers. A second site of specialist interest can be arranged on discussion with the management team.
The Oncology Department in Hull has developed rapidly over the last few years and is committed to the continuous improvement of its service. You will join a team of 12 Clinical Oncologists, 9 Medical Oncologists and 6 Palliative Medicine consultants who work as a team, each having specialist areas of interest. Services are based mainly at Queen’s Centre for Oncology and Haematology, Castle Hill Hospital and the duties will involve in and out patient care, acute oncology, radiotherapy & chemotherapy clinics and may also include peripheral hospital clinics in Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Scarborough. The successful applicants will take part in an on-call rota. The department is based in at the Queen’s Centre for Oncology and Haematology at Castle Hill Hospital site in Cottingham. There is an active professorial academic and clinical trials unit with close links to the University of Hull and the Hull York Medical School.
The Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust provides a comprehensive range of acute services for 2 hospital sites for a base population of around 600,000 with some specialist services aimed at an extended catchment area of 1.25 million people. The Trust now forms part of the Hull/York Medical School with both the NHS Trusts and Universities of Hull and York. In 2018 there was an annual intake of 130 students and in 2019 the intake has increased to 220. With an annual budget of around £500 million and employing over 9,000 staff we are committed to the continuous development of services for the benefit of patients and to providing a comprehensive service of the highest possible quality.
