This post is advertised to support the Cardio-thoracic anaesthesia and Intensive Care services at Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

The Anaesthetic department covers two hospitals, Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital. There are 62 consultants within the department who provide in excess of 30,000 anaesthetics per year to a vast range of surgical specialties and many other clinical areas.

The department of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive care provides comprehensive anaesthesia services for over 1400 procedures each year. The unit, based at Castle Hill Hospital, performs around 750 cardiac surgical procedures including major aortic, mitral and minimal access aortic surgery. The thoracic surgery unit is one of the largest units in the country performing major cancer, non-cancer video-assisted surgical procedures and oesophageal surgery. The department also provides anaesthesia services to the cardiology including primary PCI services, pacemakers & devices and a variety of electrophysiological procedures.

Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust is a University Teaching Hospital with 1293 beds and an annual budget of £481 million. The Trust supports a variety of tertiary services and is both a Major Cancer Centre and Major Trauma Centre. The East Riding of Yorkshire is a very popular place to live. It extends to several well known East Coast resorts as well as containing the Yorkshire Wolds and Yorkshire Moors. The cost of living is significantly lower than elsewhere in the country making it an excellent place to achieve a good work/life balance.
