The HUTH Department of Infection provides a ground breaking, bench-to-bedside service which includes up-to-date efficient laboratories including a brand new virology laboratory, and purpose built inpatient services with modern isolation facilities.  Within the trust and regionally, the department has an expanding clinical role as well as a developing research role.  We are an energetic, ambitious team that looks after each other and values diversity in expertise, character and background. Our team is now looking for a dynamic colleague to join our department, that currently includes 8 WTE infection (ID / Microbiology / Virology) consultants.

The infection services we manage are broad; the Trust leads the regional HIV service and Hepatitis C operational delivery network, as well as the regional TB network. We have a busy clinical service that is built on a shared workload utilising the areas of overlapping expertise of all our consultants, yet allowing space to develop specialty expertise such as cardiothoracic or neurosurgical infection management. There is a broad range of community acquired infections and we are the regional referral service for infectious diseases for East Yorkshire and Humberside.  We have an established training program, and put a high value on training the next generation of doctors and allied health care professionals.  We score consistently high on team working, teaching, supervision and overall experience in National trainee feedback. We admitted and managed the first two cases of COVID-19 in the UK, using existing clinical and laboratory pathways. The smooth management on our ward and within the laboratory is testimony to the integration of our infection services.

This is a new substantive post. We would welcome applications from anyone with or within 6 months of a CCT in Infectious Diseases, with or without a CCT in Medical Microbiology / Virology / GIM. The specific work will depend on the subspecialty interests and abilities of the successful applicant, but  may include clinical management of both in- and outpatient infectious diseases as well as laboratory duties.. The on-call commitment will be to the Infection on call rota and will be approximately 1 in 6. There is no GIM on call commitment.

Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust provides a comprehensive range of acute services from two hospital sites, with a total of 1300 beds. It serves a population of approximately 1.2 million, and provides a wide range of tertiary services. There are close links with the Hull York Medical School and a commitment to teaching and research is encouraged. There is ample opportunity to pursue research interests within the newly formed Hull Infection Research Group

Hull is placed in an environment with beautiful countryside as well as a diverse coastline with award winning beaches all on the doorstep. Significant investment has been made in the last years creating new shopping centres, waterfront living spaces, art studios and visitor attractions.  Recently Housing is plentiful and affordable and there is a good selection of high quality schools. This post attracts relocation expenses under the Trust’s policy.
