This role is also open to applications from local GP's with relevance experience

We are looking for applications from experienced clinicians to fulfil the Medical Examiner (ME) role in Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The Medical Examiner role has been created by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) in response to observations made in the Third Report of the Shipman Inquiry. The introduction of the medical examiner system will promote robust, transparent and independent scrutiny of death certification processes.

To make the system work in this Trust we are looking to appoint sufficient Consultants / GPs or SAS to cover roughly equivalent to 8 PAs of time on a Monday to Friday basis. It is envisaged that there will be 1 or 2 MEs present each afternoon Monday to Friday. They will be supported in their activities by 3 Medical Examiner’s Officers (one Band 6 and 2 Band 5s).

Applicants should have a thorough understanding of the legal processes around death certification. They should also have an understanding of how this role fits in to the patient safety and clinical governance of the Trust. The Trust vision is for this role to have a central focus on education of the junior Medical staff and successful applicants will be able to show how they expect to enable this to happen. To be eligible to apply you must have at least 1 afternoon per week that can be dedicated to this role and this must have been agreed by your clinical lead and divisional director.
