The Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust is looking to fill a Neurosurgery Research Fellow vacancy in Neurosurgery (Registrar level post). This post is available for two years subject to performance and may be extended by mutual consent.

This posts does not hold a National Training Number.

The Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust provides a comprehensive range of acute services from two hospital sites. We are a University Teaching Hospital with 1293 beds and an annual budget of £500 million. The Trust supports a variety of tertiary services and is both a Major Cancer Centre and Major Trauma Centre. We serve a local population of approximately 600,000 with some services aimed at an extended catchment area of 1.3 million population. The Trust now forms part of the Hull York Medical School with both the NHS sites and Universities of Hull and York. The Trust employs around 7000 staff and we are committed to the continuous development of services for the benefit of patients and to providing a comprehensive service of the highest possible quality.

The East Riding of Yorkshire is a very popular place to live. It extends to several well known East Coast resorts as well as containing the Yorkshire Wolds and Yorkshire Moors. Hull was selected as the UK City of Culture 2017. Hull is also a thriving university city with excellent shopping and leisure facilities including concert halls, theatres and the largest aquarium in Europe. It has excellent road and rail links with the rest of Britain, as well as ferry and air links to Europe. The cost of living is significantly lower than elsewhere in the country making it an excellent place to achieve a good work/life balance.

The Neurosurgical Department provides a regional elective and acute service across both sites of the Trust. Neurosurgery Research Fellow will be expected to provide neurosurgical on call cover at registrar level on 1 in 11 full shift rota at the Hull Royal Infirmary site. This may change in future.

Neurosurgery Research Fellow is expected to perform research work in laboratory in University of Hull under guidance of Prof Greenman. The research is expected to lead to degree of MD.

Likely date of interview is 29th October 2020
