Job overview

Working within the Cancer field you will see patients from diagnosis. Treatment pathways include chemotherapy and radiotherapy through to specialist palliative care.

This requires the successful applicant to have specialist skills and knowledge to ensure correct assessment of individual patient needs, appropriate advice and to provide clinical nursing leadership to the multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work closely with all facets, to provide a comprehensive care package to ensure that the patient experience is of the highest possible standard.

The post holders will be first level registered nurses with post basic nursing experience for at least two years and previous experience with cancer and palliative care.

Post-basic education in cancer or palliative care is desirable or the willingness to work towards within twelve months.

As a senior member of the team, the post holder will plan and organise a nurse led service in collaboration with medical colleagues requiring excellent communications skills. An interest in teaching would also be advantageous.

As a Junior Sister/Junior Charge nurse in the department you will develop and implement policies in accordance with the NMC code of conduct alongside the Trust values.

You will be expected to show leadership to your team and manage junior staff and their area of work, on a daily basis.

Essential criteria
  • RN (pt 1 of register) Oncolocy/Haematology/palliative care Qualification
  • Diploma/degree & working toward.
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching/mentorship qualification.

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • 2 years experience working in oncology/haematology
  • 2 years at Senior band 5 or above with management experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant teaching experience.
  • Administration of chemotherapy.
  • triage experience
