We are currently expanding our team and are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated Registered Children’s Nurse who wishes to develop their knowledge and skills across a wide range of specialties within an outpatient setting. The successful applicant will play a vital role in delivering high quality, safe and efficient care to the Paediatric population of Hull and the East Riding.
The POPD is a very busy department working Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm with some occasional weekend working. We run clinics in a large range of specialties including:
- General Paediatrics
- Epilepsy & Neurology
- Endocrine & Diabetes
- Immunology and Allergy
- Asthma, TB and Cystic Fibrosis
We also offer a phlebotomy service to the whole of the Trust for Paediatric Patients on an Out Patient basis this includes to GPs for under one year olds and older children with specific needs.
Within the department there is a three bedded day case area which is used for:
Day case investigations including
- MRI scans under sedation and General Anaesthetic
- CT scans under sedation
- Nuclear medicine imaging
- Central Line accessing
- Endocrine investigations
- IM/SC injections
- IV antibiotic commencement
- Blood transfusions
- Drug infusions
- Chemotherapy administration
Staff will be trained in phlebotomy and cannulation, central venous access, ECG’s and MRI scans under sedation and General Anaesthetic.
The role may involve rotation and or covering of shifts within other parts of the Paediatric Unit to meet the needs of the service.
Good communication and teamwork are essential skills for the role, with the ability to be flexible. It is essential that the successful applicant be adaptable to the changing priorities of the department, to deal with frequent interruptions and can respond positively to changing from one activity to another at short notice.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
